Ranthambore is a tiger reserve first and a tourist destination second. The rules are there to protect the animals and the forest, and following them also makes for better sightings for everyone.

In the vehicle

  • Stay seated inside the vehicle for the whole drive; getting down is not allowed except at marked points
  • Do not stand up or lean out when animals are close
  • Keep hands, arms and bags inside
  • The vehicle stays on its allotted zone and route

Around wildlife

  • Keep your voice low and phones on silent
  • No flash photography
  • Never feed animals, including langurs and birds
  • Do not tap, call or whistle to attract an animal
  • Give animals space; never ask the driver to block a path

Protecting the forest

  • No littering; carry all rubbish back
  • Avoid single-use plastic
  • No smoking or alcohol inside the park
  • No drones
  • Do not pick plants or collect anything

Paperwork

  • Carry the original photo ID used on your permit
  • Reach the pickup point on time; gates open and close at fixed times
  • Your guide is from the forest department; follow their instructions

A quiet vehicle sees more. Tigers often walk right past a Gypsy whose guests are still.

Read ID proof rules and what to pack before your safari.
