Two full days is the sweet spot for a first Ranthambore trip: enough safaris for a good chance of a tiger, with time for the fort and some rest.
Day 1
- Arrive by noon by train or road and check in
- Lunch and rest
- Evening safari: your first drive; ask the guide to explain the zone and the alarm calls
Day 2
- Morning safari: early pickup, often the best activity of the day
- Breakfast and rest
- Midday: Ranthambore Fort and Trinetra Ganesh, about two to three hours with the fort cab
- Evening safari
Day 3
- Morning safari: your last chance, often in a different zone
- Breakfast, checkout and travel on
Swap in the Chambal
If the zones you want are closed or you have already seen your tiger, replace a midday with a Chambal river safari for gharials and river dolphins.
How many safaris?
This plan has four safaris. Three is a good minimum; five or six suits photographers. Mixing morning and evening shifts and different zones gives the best overall chance. See morning or evening?
