Morning or evening

Which shift to pick

Morning shifts start cold and quiet. Animals are active after the night, the light is soft, and in winter there is often mist over the lakes.

Evening shifts are warmer and end in golden light. In summer, evenings near water are good, as animals come to drink before sunset.

Before your shift

  • We tell you the pickup time the evening before
  • Carry the same photo ID you booked with
  • Winter mornings in an open vehicle are cold: bring a warm layer, a cap and gloves
  • In April to June carry water, a hat and sunscreen

Timing questions

How long is a safari?

About two and a half hours, from entry at the gate to the end of the route.

Do timings change during the year?

Yes. The forest department sets the gate times for each part of the season, following sunrise and sunset. The table on this page shows the current pattern.

Can I do both shifts on one day?

Yes, if permits are available for both. Many guests book a morning and an evening shift in different zones.
