Gypsy safari

A six-seat open 4×4 with a forest-department guide on board. The smallest, quietest way into Ranthambore, and the first choice of photographers.

The ride

Small, quiet and quick

A Gypsy drives the same fixed route as every other vehicle in your zone. What changes is how it feels.

The Gypsy is an open-top Maruti 4×4 with room for six guests behind the driver and the forest-department guide. With only a handful of people on board it is easy to stay quiet, and the driver can pull in close to the track edge when a tiger walks out.

Because it is small, a Gypsy can turn around and reach a sighting faster than a Canter. That matters when alarm calls start or another driver reports pugmarks on the road ahead.

Gypsy questions

Can we book the whole Gypsy for our group?

Yes. If your group fills all six seats the Gypsy is yours. Smaller groups can also book a full Gypsy; ask us and we will explain the options for your date.

Is the zone fixed?

Yes. The forest department allots the zone and it is printed on the permit. A Gypsy cannot leave its zone during the safari.

Is a Gypsy better for photography?

Usually, yes. Fewer people means less movement and noise, and you sit lower and closer to the track.

What if a guest cannot come?

Permits are issued in each guest’s name and checked at the gate. Tell us as early as possible and we will tell you what the permit rules allow.
